Linda Martini

Linda Martini was formed in 2003 and named after an Italian friend of Pedro Geraldes (guitarist).Almost every member of the band (André Henriques, Cláudia Guerreiro, Hélio Morais) have been on Punk-Rock/Hardcore bands before joining Linda Martini. Since the edition of the first EP, in January 2006, the band has been highly cherished, both by the public, the music press and promoters. In 2006, the single “Amor Combate” was considered the single of the year by Henrique Amaro da Antena 3 and, in the same year, the debut album - “Olhos de Mongol” - is distinguished as “disc of the year” for readers of Blitz magazine.

2009 is the year of the reissue of the debut album - “ Olhos de Mongol ” - together with the first EP - “ Linda Martini ".

In 2010 the band records “Casa Ocupada” which takes their sound to a new level. The album is an excersize of dark wave and sonic guitar eruptions. The inspiration for the album was the house they squatted when they really had no money to spend and the dark feelings they felt during that time. In 2013 the band celebrated its 10th anniversary, it released its third album “Turbo Lento ” on a mayor lable. The popularity of the band grew rapidly with sold out concerts in Lisbon and Porto.

On May 31, 2014, they participated in a tribute to António Variações at Rock in Rio Lisboa, along with other names of Portuguese music such as Deolinda and Gisela João. In early 2015, the band announced on their Facebook page a reissue of their work on vinyl.

What do we think:

DB: I once explained to someone that Linda Martini is Portugal´s answer to Sonic Youth but then more melodic. Especially Casa Ocupada is a masterpiece of multi guitar layered indierock (just listen to the song Elevador on that album!). The band doses eruptions of guitar noise in between more melodic songwriting. Their later albums mellow down a bit but still is this one of the better European rockbands in the new age.
