Chisu

About:

3 January 1982

Chisu, stagename of Christel Martina Sundberg, was born in 1982. She wrote her first single 'Mun koti e oo täällä' ('My home is right here') for the soundtrack to the movie 'Sooloilua' ('Going solo') in 2008, which became a hit single in Finland. In that same year Chisu released her first album titled 'Alkovi' ('Alcove').

In 2009 she released her second album, 'Vapaa ja yksin' ('Free and single') in 2009. It became a huge success, both commercially and artistically. It stayed in the Finnish charts for seventy weeks and reached platinum status. In 2009 she won two Emma Awards and in 2010 she was nominated in seven categories including best female vocalist of the year, best albums of the year and best producer of the year.

In October 2011 Chisu released her third album 'Kun valaistun' ('When I get illuminated').

Chisu composes and writes her songs herself, and she has also composed music for several artists such as Antti Tuisku, Tarja Turunen, Jippu, Kristiina Brask and Kristiina Wheeler.

What do we think:

PR: Chisu is probably the leading lady in the league of young, talented female singer/songwriters in Finland (others are Jenni Vartiainen and Jippu). Although she is not even thirty, she is in full control of her music. She composes all her songs, writes all lyrics, takes care of the arrangements and the production. Her albums are diverse in styles, but her remarkable voice, somewhat naive, yet very personal and touching, is the binding factor. This is quality europopmusic and there is no doubt that we will hear a lot more exciting stuff from this artist in the future!
