About:

30 December 1955

As a 12 year old Sanne took it into her head she wanted to be a rock singer. At the start of the seventies she starred in musicals like Hair, Godspell and Touch mit. In 1973 her debut appeared the self titled Sanne Salomonsen. At the end of the decade she formed the band Sneakers around her. In 1981 she joined Anne Linnet and Lis Sørensen to form the Anne Linnet Band. The connection with Linnet stayed even after the band stopped again in 1983. She would record two duet records with her.

With the ending of the Anne Linnet Band she took up a part in the movie Forræderne. This was so well received that she took up a career as a serious actress. This meant the end of the Sneakers who still accompanied her during solo concerts. In 1986 she started to record in Danish and English simultaneously in hope of breaking the Anglo American market. The 1989 album Sanne was a first attempt and sold 600.000 times…in the Scandinavian version. She tried again with Where Blue Begins produced by Jim Gaines. This was more succesfull and she recorded the follow up English album Language of the Heart with the band Little Feat.

In 1996 she did a German tour together with Peter Maffay. The next English sung album was a jazz album ('In a New York minute') recorded with Michael Brecker, Randy Brecker, David Sanborn and Toots Thielemans. Since her English sung career is so successful she hasn’t recorded a Danish sung album since although the 2000 compilations De bedste af de bedste sold over 50.000 copies.

In 2006 Sanne Salomonsen was hit by a blood clot in the brain and she became paralyzed on one half of the face and one arm. While fighting to overcome the effects of her illnis, her career was put on hold. Until 2009, when she suddenly appeared on stage at a Green Concert. In March 2009, she released an new record, 'Unico', entirely sung in het native Danish language. The album contained the hitsingle 'Taxa' ('Taxi'), which reached no. 2 in the Danish charts. During 2009 nand 2010 Sanne toured throughout Denmark. In 2011 she started working on a new album.

What do we think:

PR: Sanne has been recording since 1973 and she has released many popular Danish singles. No wonder the Danes liker to refer to her as the 'Rock Mama of Denmark'. And how true that nickname is. Sanne rocks; she has a great rock voice and loves the stage. I prefer her albums in Danish over the many records she recorded in English. '1996' (Danis version) is a great rock album to start with, 'Ingen engel' is a somewhat softer introduction to Sanne, but contains also very nice songs.

DB: Together with Anne Linnet Sanne forms one of the better rock and pop singers in Denmark. Personally i think it's too bad she decided to switch more often to English cause her Danish sung material is just as good, if not better. And to be completely honest, i like her duet albums with Anne Linnet the best. Sorry Sanne.
